The use of light therapy is a very old concept. Many ancient cultures practiced various forms of heliotherapy, including the people of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. The Inca, Assyrian and early Germanic tribes also used the sun for health improvement purposes. Niels Finsen, father of modern Phototherapy, treated tuberculosis and won the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1903.
